DIY home decor can either go really good or bad very quick. I’m going to teach you 5 of my favourite DIY projects I have tried lately.
Have you ever walked into a store, seen a product you like, looked at the price tag and went “I could make this myself for a lot cheaper”? You’re not alone.
This blog post is giving you 5 super easy DIY Home Decor Ideas to try right now.
1. Pictures & Quotes
The one thing I can’t live without is definitely pictures! My phone currently has over 10,000 photos saved on it. Don’t worry, I also have it backed up. I’d probably have a heart attack if it wasn’t and I lost it all. To me, pictures are a way of capturing memories and moments so you can look at them forever.
Here is a simple way to take all those photos and create a collage of photos. Visit London Drugs or Walmart online. You can have as many pictures printed as you want. I chose to use London Drugs as their photo printing can be completed within an hour. I received a text message when they were finished.
Using the photos I had printed, I created a collage of 18 pictures for less than $5 of printing!! Highly recommend! I got a picture collage frame from HomeSense for less than $20. All together the project cost me $25. Now I can look at my favourite memories every single day.
One of the easiest ways to do a diy home decor project is to make your own painting on a canvas, throw a quote on a canvas, or even printing off pictures at the store and putting them in a frame.
2. Coasters
Know what this photo is missing? A coaster under the coffee.
I have been on the hunt for nice coasters for a few months. All the ones I was finding were either too expensive, not the look I wanted, or not enough. I came up with the best solution!! I cut up a sheet of large hexagon tiles that I had bought from Home Depot and divided it all up. Next using hot glue and a sheet of felt, I glued the felt onto the back of the tiles. The project took me a total of 10 minutes to have everything completed. Was a simple, fast solution that looked so pretty. The sheet of tiles cost $15 and the felt for the backing cost me $0.99 at Michaels.
3. Wooden Storage Box
This is a very simple DIY home decor project. All you need is paint and a cheap wooden storage box. Paint it, add some elegant design, and you are finished. A great way to store pictures, tv remotes, phone chargers and glasses.
4. Pillows
A fun rainy day project is to head to your local fabric supply store, find the perfect print, and turn them into pillows. You will need a sewing machine to complete this.
5. Turn a hanging flower pot into a regular planted flower pot
Hanging flower pots come with a variety of flowers already bunched together. Whereas, a regular planted flower pot you would have to buy each of the flowers individually at the store, bring them home, take them out of the containers and plant them within your pot. I love to do this, but depending on the flowers you chose it can get expensive. My mom was the one who gave me this great idea! This is more for outdoor flowers. Buy a hanging flower pot and transfer all the flowers into your large outdoor pot. It looks equally as pretty but is a fraction of the cost.
DIY home decor doesn’t have to be tacky, it can look very pretty and is a joy to create. I hope these ideas have sparked your DIY crafty skills. Now, go off and create your next DIY home decor accessories.
